Thar Roxx Update Spied: OG Alloys and DaVinci Dampers, Launch Date and What to Expect

A Thar Roxx update has been spied testing in India, with new alloy wheels that look like the ones on the new Thar OG and what reporters believe are DaVinci dampers. Our latest Short called it an upgrade, but Mahindra has announced nothing: no update, no launch date and no price. This guide explains what was actually spied, what DaVinci is and which Mahindras have it today, and what a Roxx owner or buyer should do in the meantime.

What has been spied, and what has not

    • Spied: a partly camouflaged Thar Roxx test car with underbody and wheel-well shots, reported by Rushlane on 10 October 2026.
    • Reported: alloy wheels that look similar to those on the Thar OG, the facelifted three-door Thar.
    • Inferred: DaVinci dampers. Reporters infer this from the Thar OG, not from anything clearly visible on the car.
    • Not announced: any Roxx update, a launch date, new features or a price.

CarDekho’s report on 12 October adds that the car looks to have the Thar OG’s 19-inch alloy design, and expects small feature updates. Those expectations are the outlet’s own, and Mahindra has not said anything.

    What DaVinci actually is

DaVinci is a damper, not a new suspension. According to Autocar Professional, it is a patented mechanical damper from the supplier Tenneco, where shim-stack valves change how oil flows depending on how often and how hard the bumps hit. It uses no sensors, motors or computer. Mahindra was the first customer but does not have exclusive rights to it.

evo India explains that it first appeared on the XUV 7XO, where it replaced the older frequency-dependent dampers. Mahindra now also fits it to the Thar OG. Contrary to what some people assume, the XEV 9e and BE 6 electric SUVs do not use DaVinci; they have electronic semi-active dampers.

Where the Thar OG fits in

The Thar OG is the facelifted three-door Thar, launched on 22 September 2026 at an introductory ₹10.32 lakh, with deliveries starting on 11 October and a range running up to ₹18.99 lakh ex-showroom, according to Autocar India. Its changes include DaVinci damping, a new rear suspension with a Watts link, electric power steering, six airbags and new 19-inch alloys on the top ZXT trim. It is the car whose parts the spied Roxx seems to share.

One caution: Mahindra’s own release and Autocar disagree slightly about which trims also get frequency-dependent damping on the Thar OG, so do not rely on a trim-by-trim claim until Mahindra publishes it.

    Careful with the Watts-link claim

Some reports point to visible Watts-link rods as evidence of DaVinci. That does not hold up, because the current Thar Roxx already has a penta-link rear suspension with a Watts linkage, according to Mahindra’s own engineering blog. Seeing those rods proves nothing about the dampers. The more honest wording is that the Roxx has been spied and is expected to get the Thar OG’s hardware.

    The Thar Roxx today

For context, the current Roxx starts at about ₹12.52 lakh ex-showroom and goes to about ₹23.5 lakh, depending on the source. It comes with a 2.0 turbo-petrol making 160 to 174bhp and a 2.2 diesel making 150 to 172bhp, with a six-speed manual or automatic. Rear-wheel drive comes with both engines, and four-wheel drive is available with the diesel only. It already has frequency-dependent dampers borrowed from the Scorpio-N and hydraulic rebound stoppers. Separately, a 1.5-litre diesel Roxx was reported in testing in December 2025, but that is speculation and is not tied to this update.

    A note on our Short

The Short said the Thar Roxx is upgrading with “new DaVinci suspension” and “OG alloys”. Here is where each claim stands:

    • “Upgrading”: spied, not confirmed. Mahindra has said nothing.
    • “DaVinci suspension”: the name is real, but it is a damper upgrade, not a whole new suspension, and it is inferred rather than confirmed on the Roxx.
    • “OG alloys”: accurate as a description of what was spied. The exact wheel size on the Roxx is not confirmed.

What to check on a Roxx test drive today

Whether or not an update is coming, the same few checks tell you more than a spy shot. Drive the car over a rough, broken road at moderate speed and notice how it settles after a bump, since ride is exactly what a damper change would target. Take it on the highway and listen for wind and tyre noise. Try the same trim with the petrol and the diesel, because the two behave very differently. And ask the dealer which suspension and alloy specification the car you are buying has, so you know what, if anything, would change later.

Should you wait for the updated Thar Roxx?

Wait if ride comfort is your main complaint with off-roaders and you are not in a hurry. A damper change aimed at ride quality is the kind of update that matters most on a daily-driven Roxx.

Do not wait if you need a Roxx now. There is no date, no price and no confirmed feature list, so waiting could mean months for an unknown benefit. If you are buying now, a test drive on your own roads is worth more than any spy shot.

We have not driven the Roxx with these parts, and nobody outside Mahindra has. See more in spy shots, watch the Short in our Shorts feed, and read about another Mahindra reveal, the XUV 3XO CNG.

    Thar Roxx update FAQs

Has Mahindra announced a Thar Roxx update?

No. A test car has been spied and reported, but Mahindra has not announced any update, launch date or price.

    What is DaVinci suspension?

DaVinci is a mechanical damper from Tenneco that adjusts damping based on how frequent and how hard the bumps are, without sensors or a computer. It is a damper upgrade, not a new suspension layout.

Which Mahindra cars have DaVinci dampers?

The XUV 7XO and the new three-door Thar OG have DaVinci dampers. The XEV 9e and BE 6 use electronic semi-active dampers instead.

What are the Thar OG alloys?

They are the new 19-inch alloy wheels on the top ZXT trim of the Thar OG. The spied Roxx appears to have a similar design.

How much does the Thar Roxx cost now?

The current Roxx starts at about ₹12.52 lakh ex-showroom, according to Rushlane. Prices differ slightly by source and change often.

The updated Thar Roxx is a spy shot with a likely story behind it, not an announcement. Wait for Mahindra to confirm before you plan around it.
